Salary: $24.00/Hour

Under the supervision of the Library Director, this position oversees all activities relating to the maintenance, safety, and cleaning of the Library's building and grounds. Performs preventative maintenance and maintains records.

Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Library Director, establishes short-term and long-term goals and objectives for maintenance services.

  • Serves as the liaison with contractors and the Village of Lake Bluff for building and systems maintenance. Responsible for minor electrical, structural, and plumbing repairs.
  • Contacts vendors and coordinates maintenance for HVAC, landscaping, elevators, plumbing, electrical services, sprinkler system, and fire/security alarm services.
  • Maintains comprehensive records of all maintenance contracts and repair history, including equipment and system updates.
  • General maintenance skills including drywall repair and painting.
  • Oversees meeting room set-ups.
  • Snow removal as needed.
  • Minor landscaping tasks as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with fire codes, OSHA, and other safety regulations.
  • Orders and monitors janitorial supplies.
  • Assists with the management of key holder inventory; manages access to staff and public entrances.
  • Performs general maintenance and cleaning duties throughout the building and grounds.
  • Leads equipment and furniture installation as needed.
  • Ability to respond to all building and grounds emergencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position may require working during any of the hours that the Library is open, including evenings and weekends. May occasionally need to work during hours the Library is not open to the public as well. Although a weekly schedule is established, the needs of the Library may require schedule changes and flexibility.

Physical/Mental Requirements

  •  Standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., and pushing carts weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Good vision and hearing.
  • Crouching, crawling, kneeling, bending and climbing ladders.
  • Requires repetitive hand and shoulder movement.
  • Looking at a computer screen and retrieving and processing information.
  • Valid driver’s license required

Education/Experience Required

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Three years’ experience performing maintenance and custodial work.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Experience in minor repair required.
  • Experience in landscaping and grounds keeping preferred.
