Salary: Starting $68,359 DOQ
Lake Bluff Public Library is seeking a friendly and customer service-oriented leader as our next Reference and Circulation Manager. The Reference and Circulation Manager leads the operations of the Reference and Circulation Department in accordance with the Library's mission statement, long-term plans, and library policies.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and a willingness to learn, will be able to manage multiple responsibilities and make problem-solving decisions, and can thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited library school
- At least three years providing direct customer service in a public-facing position
- At least three years library work experience
- At least one year of supervisory experience
Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Library Director, establishes short-term and long-term goals and objectives for Reference and Circulation services.
- Proposes and advises Library Director on suggested changes to Circulation and Reference policies; keeps Library Director informed about plans and operations in Reference and Circulation services.
- Oversees the hiring, staffing, and scheduling of the Circulation and Reference Staff and public facing desk.
- Oversees the creation, implementation and ongoing maintenance for Circulation and Reference staff procedures.
- Monitors condition of Circulation Desk and Library Book Drop, including furnishings, equipment, technology and other space needs for Circulation and Reference services; works with the Library Director and Adult and Youth Services Manager to identify maintenance and improvements as needed.
- Works with the Adult and Youth Services Manager, Technology Manager, and the Library Director to oversee the management of the library’s online public access catalog.
- Acts as trained and certified Notary Public; completes required training as needed; manages notary and voter registration services; provides support and training opportunities to other certified staff.
- Communicates effectively with all library staff as appropriate regarding policies, procedures, collections, partnerships, etc.
- Responds to emergency situations involving staff, customers, and building and communicates promptly and efficiently with the Library Director. Acts as designated Person-in-Charge when needed.
Work Environment: The work is both active and sedentary. Work may include carrying of lightweight items, such as books and other library materials, or pushing of book carts.
Location & Schedule: This is an in-person, on-site position that works at Lake Bluff Public Library. This position does require availability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Flexibility is provided for occasional work from home hours
