Lake Bluff Public Library Welcomes New Director

Natalie Starosta
The Board of Trustees of the Lake Bluff Public Library has announced the appointment of Natalie Starosta as the Library’s new Director. Ms. Starosta will begin her role on Monday, March 10, 2025, following a nationwide search for the position.

Ms. Starosta brings over a decade of experience in transforming library services to better serve diverse communities, with a strong background in innovation, community engagement, and staff development. She most recently served as the Director of the North Riverside Public Library District, where she oversaw more than $1 million in renovations, created advanced makerspaces, launched a pop-up library in a local mall, and expanded virtual programming to better serve the community. Prior to that, she served as a Library Director in Michigan before moving to Illinois.

The Library Board was particularly impressed by Ms. Starosta’s ability to navigate challenges and implement successful solutions. “Natalie has encountered some of the challenges we’re facing at Lake Bluff,” said Trustee Alexandra Friedeman. “We liked the fact that she’s had success resolving them and leading her library to a better place.” Trustee Janie Jerch highlighted Ms. Starosta’s relationship-building skills, noting, “She empowers her staff to work with local agencies and organizations. Everyone benefits when we work together.” Trustee Jenny Graziano praised Ms. Starosta’s leadership in staff development, stating, “Natalie finds small ways to encourage staff to try new things and grow professionally. This makes them more confident and creative, leading to better services for Lake Bluff residents.”

Ms. Starosta is also an active leader in the broader library community, having served on the American Library Association’s (ALA) Council, acted as a policy monitor, and contributed as a grant reviewer for various library associations. With a robust background in change management, budgeting, and strategic planning, she continues to lead libraries toward becoming vital, inclusive community hubs. Her leadership style prioritizes creative problem-solving, staff empowerment, and fostering strong community partnerships with businesses, schools, and local organizations.

The Lake Bluff Public Library looks forward to the experience and vision Ms. Starosta will bring to the Library and the community.
