Board of Trustees Appoints Interim Library Director
On September 17, the Lake Bluff Public Library Board of Trustees unanimously voted to approve the appointment of David J. Seleb as Interim Library Director. Seleb will replace Renee Grassi, who announced her resignation earlier this month after serving as Library Director since January 2023.
Seleb brings over 30 years of experience in library management and leadership in public libraries. He served as Executive Director of the Oak Park (IL) Public Library from May 2013 until his retirement in February 2022, where he led significant initiatives in community engagement and library services. Prior to Oak Park, he held director roles at the Indian Trails Library District in Wheeling (IL), the Winnetka-Northfield (IL) Public Library District, and the Blue Island (IL) Public Library. Throughout his career, Seleb has been recognized for his innovative approach to library services and his commitment to fostering inclusive community spaces.
“The Library Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. David J. Seleb as Interim Library Director,” Lake Bluff Library Board President Bonnie Shaul says. “David brings extensive experience in both large and small libraries, as well as a strong understanding of serving communities in the North Shore of Chicago. He will be an asset to Lake Bluff, the staff, and the Board of Trustees during the transition, as the Board conducts a search for a new permanent Library Director.”
In addition to his library management experience, Seleb has been actively involved in professional community-based organizations. He served on the Boards of the Harwood Institute and the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff History Center, contributing his expertise in public engagement and civic dialogue. Most recently, in 2023, he served as Interim Director at the Lake Forest Public Library, continuing his dedication to public service and library advocacy.
Welcome to Lake Bluff, David!
