Stroh Room now open
Lake Bluff Public Library and the Library Board of Trustees are pleased to announce the Carole S. and Alfred Stroh Reading Room is now open and available for use. Designed by Engberg Anderson Architects, the Stroh Reading Room is a dedicated quiet space that features comfortable lounge seating surrounding a gas fireplace. A study table with built-in power provides additional seating options and technology support for devices.
The Library has received significant community feedback about the need for quiet space in the building. As a result, this became a priority for capital improvement enhancements. One of the strongest advocates for this goal was long-time Lake Bluff resident and former Library Trustee, the late Carole “Cal” Stroh. In addition to her vocal support of this goal during Board discussions, Cal also made a generous personal donation that contributed to the success of this project. Throughout the planning process, Cal provided the same thoughtful, honest, and witty feedback that distinguished her as a Library Trustee. The thought and care she contributed to this process is demonstrated in the quality of the renovated space.
In addition to the support of Cal Stroh, the Friends of the Lake Bluff Public Library also provided funds for the purchase and installation of the gas-powered stone fireplace. Additional funding for construction and furnishings was provided by the Lake Bluff Public Library Foundation and other local community donors. The Library is grateful to all of the generosity that made this space possible.
Sadly, Cal passed away before construction on the Stroh Reading Room was complete. Because of Cal's generosity and civic leadership, the Library is proud to welcome the community to our new Reading Room. This space will serve as tribute to her legacy of service, generosity, and dedication for many years to come.
The Lake Bluff Public Library invites the community to visit the Library and enjoy this new space. The Library will also host a small reception honoring the life of Cal Stroh and her many contributions to Lake Bluff Library on Friday, June 23. The time of the ceremony will be shared on the Library website as soon as it is available.
