On this date in 1865, Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and the last enslaved people learned that they were free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was given. Today, Lake Bluff Public Library joins our community and the nation in celebration of Juneteenth, a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States.
Starting June 6, the Lake Bluff Public Library will be rolling out changes to our email notifications. A major update to our software now allows us a greater degree of customization and flexibility with our email notices. These improved communications will be more visually appealing, have better mobile/tablet compatibility, and will provide you with more useful information about items checked out to your account. Additionally, automated bounce handling will allow us to more effectively troubleshoot problems with email message delivery.
Friday, June 23 from 2 – 4 pm
The Lake Bluff Public Library Foundation invites the public to join in the celebration and dedication of the Carole S. and Alfred Stroh Reading Room.
Drop by the Library between 2 – 4 p.m. on Friday, June 23 and enjoy a small reception honoring the life and legacy of Carole “Cal” Stroh and her many contributions to Lake Bluff Public Library. Light refreshments will be served with remarks at 2:45 pm.
Designed by Engberg Anderson Architects, the Stroh Reading Room is a dedicated quiet space that features comfortable lounge seating surrounding a gas fireplace. A study table with built-in power provides additional seating options and technology support for devices.
Lake Bluff Public Library would like to extend a hearty congratulations to the three Board members who were elected to the Library Board of Trustees in April: Sandy Berg, Alexandra Friedeman and Janie Jerch.
UPDATE 5/24: At 4:00pm, we were alerted that AT&T has removed our domain from their blocklist. These changes may take 24-48 hours to take effect, which means that this issue should be fully resolved by Friday, May 26 at 4:00pm. Please let us know if you continue to experience any difficulties contacting the Library.
The Lake Bluff Public Library extends our sincere gratitude and appreciation to Trustees Kathy Meierhoff and Jon Heintzelman who will leave the Library Board of Trustees at the conclusion of their terms this May.
Trustee Meierhoff was elected to the Library Board in 2011; after serving as Secretary, she became Board President in 2013. A former social studies teacher at Lake Bluff Middle School, Trustee Meierhoff’s time on the Board has been distinguished by her strong sense of fiscal responsibility and thoughtful leadership.
